Taif is rich in heritage buildings, particularly the historic Al-Kou’ Mosque. It is located near Al-Muthanna village, within the botanical gardens of the western mountain route. The area is surrounded by farms and orchards. The historic mosque itself has a link to the life of the Prophet (peace be upon him).

It is believed that the Prophet (pbuh), stood in this place when he arrived in Taif, hence why it is also called the Stop Mosque. It is also said that he leaned on a stone in the same place – the name “Al-Kou’” means “elbow”.

Al-Kou’ is a small-sized mosque eight meters in length and seven meters in width. The square-shaped roof is three meters high and overlooks an open yard of about seven square meters. The southern section contains an arched entrance.
