If you find yourself in the vicinity of the historic city of Al-Hofuf in the Eastern Province and enjoy browsing handcrafted goods, do pay a visit to the local Craftsmen Market that features some of Al-Ahsa’s finest heritage products. The market aims to actively celebrate the popular heritage that has developed over generations and introduce traditional goods to visitors.
Description
The market is located on an area of more than 12,000 square meters and divided into two distinctive sections. The first section features 26 stores designated for local craftsmen. The second also consists of 26 stores that have been allocated to showcasing crafts in which water is used.
In the middle of the market is an open courtyard where traditional festivals and various heritage events are held, surrounded by arches resting on four columns each. In the courtyard is a popular café and bakery that prepares Tanoor bread. There is also an academy for teaching handicrafts and arts.
Handicrafts and traditional food
This market, one of the most important tourist landmarks in Al-Ahsa, aims to preserve traditional crafts in the region and provide support for craftsmen financially and also through local tourism promotion.
The market displays many handicraft products such as pottery, traditional clothing, household implements, and agricultural products that the region is famous for.
