Prince Bader bin Abdullah bin Farhan, minister of culture, approved today in Riyadh the plan to launch Traditional Arts Institute at the Royal Art Complex. The institute will start receiving applications for fall 2020. The initial target is to serve 1000 students and trainees who can join long-term and short-term programs.

The institute aims to preserve local identity through increasing knowledge about art. It also hopes to preserve and develop Saudi heritage, train qualified practitioners, raise awareness about value of arts, make partnerships with universities.

The institute project is part of initiatives announced by the Ministry of Culture's and the Quality of Life Program. The Minister of Culture announced in August their efforts to study the establishments of specialized academies with specific focus on heritage, traditional arts and crafts.
